Valuable experiences, exciting insights, international friendships
Scholarship holder Lukas Petersson on his internship at the EU Delegation in Geneva
Lukas Petersson is a Master's student in the International Relations & Global Politics program at Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen. As part of the Wilhelm Frank Program, the student is currently completing an internship at the Permanent Mission of the European Union to the United Nations. to learn about the working methods, challenges and the international diplomatic environment in international organizations.
"During my internship at the Permanent Representation of the EU to the United Nations in Geneva, I am gaining a lot of valuable experience. Among other things, I recently had the honor of supporting the EU team at the 56th session of the Human Rights Council. My tasks included attending various events and reporting afterwards. These included, for example, interactive dialogs with special rapporteurs or negotiations on resolutions. I was impressed not only by the interactions between the delegations, but also by the exchange with non-governmental organizations and other representatives of civil society. One conversation that particularly stuck in my mind was with the human rights defender Olivier Vandecasteele. He was held hostage by the Iranian state for more than a year and is now campaigning for the safety of his colleagues. In addition to the valuable practical experience, I also benefit from the social contacts I have made in Geneva. Through the internship, I get to know friends from all over the world, which allows me to continue developing my intercultural skills."
