Internship at the EU Delegation in Geneva - successfully completed
Lukas Petersson
Geneva - November 2024 - A summer internship at the EU Delegation in Geneva not only offers exciting insights into international diplomacy, but also formative personal experiences. Lukas Petersson, the first scholarship holder in the Wilhelm Frank Foundation's program, spent three intensive months in the Swiss city, which is considered the heart of international cooperation.
Working at the EU delegation enabled him to get to know people from different cultures. This led to friendships that have lasted far beyond the internship.
However, the challenges of intercultural communication also became clear during negotiations in the Human Rights Council. "Intercultural understanding and communication on an equal footing are crucial in order to preserve and further develop the achievements of human rights."
During his internship, Lukas gained a deep insight into the everyday life of diplomacy. He experienced the analytical and strategic work behind the scenes. "Diplomats impress with their ability to quickly familiarize themselves with new topics and act flexibly," says Petersson.
Working at the EU Delegation enabled Lukas to put theoretical knowledge from his studies into practice. "I was able to experience the dynamics between the EU member states at first hand and understand how European foreign policy works in a multilateral context," says Lukas.
He appeals to future scholarship holders to take advantage of the opportunity for an internship in Geneva. "Geneva does not offer personal enrichment, but above all professional enrichment," he explains. Despite a heavy workload, the atmosphere at the EU delegation is respectful and supportive.
With his internship in Geneva, Lukas not only gained valuable professional experience, but also laid the foundations for future international involvement.
